Mixed performance for furniture manufacturers

The BFM has analysed the latest official figures on the performance of the UK furniture manufacturing industry

The analysis covers the first 7 months 2016 and the findings are as follows:

  • good production growth
  • growth in quantity of furniture sold but at a lesser price
  • signs that furniture manufacturing costs are increasing
  • slowdown in factory gate price increases
  • retail price inflation slows according to an average of prices but turns negative when short term sales discounts are accounted for
  • furniture imports rise
  • furniture exports rise
