Furniture Village celebrates 20 years with 20K for FTBA

Furniture Village – long time supporters of The Furnishing Trades Benevolent Association (FTBA) – celebrated its 20th birthday with a £20K donation to the industry's only dedicated charity.

The presentation was made at the 36-strong store group's Slough store where Furniture Village chief executive Peter Harrison handed over a cheque to FTBA chief executive Charles Kerrigan.

Said Peter Harrison: “Furniture Village has supported the FTBA for very many years and is delighted to mark this special anniversary with a further boost to the charity's funds.

“The association plays an extremely important role in helping those in need across our industry and, as a company, we have always been proud to do whatever we can to help with its fundraising activities. The furnishings sector remains an exciting and dynamic area of business to be involved with and, after 20 great years so far, this is our way of putting something back in to it.

“In addition to the good times there have been tough ones too and arguably none as difficult at they are today. Nevertheless one can never fail to be impressed with the resilience, spirit and strong heart of those within our industry who ensure that it remains a major force within the UK's business community.

“Whilst we all recognise the importance of style, variety, innovation and of course inordinately good value, especially in these fragile times, we ourselves will do everything we can to support British manufacturing and will be actively promoting this fact in the months to come. We look forward to the next 20 years with equal excitement and much determination.”

Furniture Village opened its first ever store in Abingdon on August 19th 1989 and now has a UK-wide network of outlets. To mark the company's special day, and as a thank you on behalf of the charity, Charles Kerrigan presented the board with a celebratory cake and special card. A certificate recognising Furniture Village's contribution to the FTBA was also presented.

Said Charles Kerrigan: “Furniture Village has been an incredibly loyal and long time supporter of the FTBA and, in particular, of our annual Big Shots clay pigeon shoot. Without the help of companies like this, the association would simply not be in a position to help both former and current employees across the industry who suddenly find themselves facing unexpected financial difficulties or in need of a respite break.

“This particular donation from Furniture Village has come as a most welcome and much needed boost to our funds and we are genuinely delighted that the company has chosen to celebrate its 20 th birthday in this way.”
