New licence & training requirements for lorry drivers
From 10th September 2009, it will be compulsory for new lgv drivers (of lorries over 3.5 tonnes) to hold a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) , as well as the relevant vocational licence, and then to undergo 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years . Those who already hold a vocational licence on this date will be given ‘acquired rights', exempting them from the initial driver CPC but they will still be subject to the ‘periodic' training requirement, which in this instance means that the 35 hours of training will have to be completed by 10 th September 2014 (and the next by 2019 and so on).
