Furniture manufacturers turnover up but still well below pre-pandemic levels
According to the Office of National Statistics, the total turnover of UK furniture manufacturers in the first 5 months of 2021 was just short of £3.3 billion and 21.6% up on the same period in 2020 when it stood at just over £2.7 billion. It was also up on the April 2021 figure which stood at £648 billion.
The May turnover figure alone was £677 million, double the figure in that month last year. However, looking at the same periods in 2019, pre-pandemic, the industry still has some catching up to do, as the January to May figure in 2019 stood at £3.86 billion or 14.7% better than the comparative period this year.
