New fund to support export for SME’s in England
The BFM, on behalf of members, attended (face-to-face) the 2020/21 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of ‘Export Partners UK’ (EPUK - formerly ‘Sponsors Alliance’) held in London on the 13th September 2021. At which presentations were made on the new Internationalisation Fund, launched in December 2020; a £38m fund, running until early 2023, designed to support eligible SMEs in England to overcome tangible barriers to trading overseas through third party advice and support, e.g., due diligence or Intellectual Property Advice.
This is to replace the Trade Access Programme (TAP), which the DIT believes was overdue for change. A replacement scheme is being put in place. The aims of the new scheme will be to encourage and support SMEs to attend tradeshows and how to maximise the benefits they bring to a business’s wider export development. The new programme will focus on supporting those SMEs that can demonstrate strong export potential in recognition of the key role they can play in the economy.
The DIT will selectively support a number of key tradeshows this financial year, aiming to expand the impact that is generated from those events, via the Internationalisation Fund. It intends to launch the new programme for trade show support in late autumn 2021.
