The BFM is the leading trade association for British furniture manufacturing companies, industry suppliers and retailers.
We operate a Code of Practice for manufacturing members and a Retail Code of Practice for retail members.
A principle objective of the BFM is to encourage all members to adopt good trading practices. For manufacturers this means promoting high standards of furniture quality, construction and design. To do this, members must follow a Furniture trade association Code of Practice, specifically, the BFM Code of Practice.
For retailers it means a commitment to good customer services and a clear pathway to achieving net zero carbon. To demonstrate this, members must follow our Retail Code of Practice.
Each member is governed by the BFM Articles & Memorandum of Association and membership is only with approval of the BFM Board of Directors.
The purpose of the BFM Codes of Practice are to:
Promote integrity:
The BFM Codes of Practice promotes the integrity of BFM members to customers and consumers by subscribing and conforming to the standards defined within the code.
Promote the BFM:
The BFM Codes of Practice promotes the BFM and its members to the wider industry and consumers, at home and overseas.
Promote best practice:
The BFM Codes of Practice promotes best practice by BFM members.
It should be noted that this Furniture trade association's Codes of Practice reflects the minimum standard expected of BFM members.
Each manufacturing member company must undertake a self-certified audit to establish that it abides by the BFM Code of Practice as a condition of membership. However if you have been audited by a leading retailer or buying group this will fast track your audit, however you will be asked to provide evidence.
Each retail member company must undertake a self-certified audit to establish that it abides by its rules as a condition of membership.
